Training, Supervision and  NYS Exam Preparation
Supervision  of Mental Health Professionals:
Preparation for the New York State Licensure
Examination:
New York State offers the licensing examination twice
per year. In preparation for this examination, MFT NY
Staff provides thorough and comprehensive training
in all categories necessary to be successful in
passing  the NYS licensure exam. This training is
given by Dr. Joan D. Atwood.   She is the former
President of the New York State Association for
Marriage and Family Therapists, as well as a
Professor of MFT for over 25 years preparing
hundreds of graduates to enter the field and
thoroughly prepared for the licensure examination.
As a result, persons
applying for licensure must
obtain supervision in
Marriage and Family
Therapy Training. MFT NY

forms are submitted to NYS.  Ongoing supervision is
available on an individual or group basis.

All supervision is done by qualified NYS licensed
supervisors and AAMFT approved supervisors. AAMFT
is the professional organization that regulates the field
of Marriage and Family Therapy. For additional

MFT NY supervisors meet with future Mental Health
Professionals on a weekly basis. This can be arranged
in an individual or group setting. One way mirror
observation is available for observing therapists
working with clients in session, as well as the use of
audio technology. Video tape playing is also utilized
when appropriate.
